/ Author Q&A  / Meet the Author: Wade Richards

1. Your name:

Wade Richards, LCAT, MT-BC // Author of: Richards’ Modified Tuning for Adapted Guitar

2. Education/Background:

Bachelor of Science degree in music therapy and applied voice from S.U.N.Y at Fredonia.

Internship at the Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) in Binghamton, New York.

Throughout my colorful career, I have pursued additional training in Orff-Schulwerk, Neurologic Music Therapy, American Sign Language, and Performance Wellness. Currently, I am an instructor at the Eastman School of Music, and an owner of Spectrum Creative Arts in Rochester, NY. I also host the Time for Music website and co-host On-The-Go Studio podcast with Megan Resig.

3. Favorite band/artist in 7th grade:

Well since this was the 80’s, who didn’t I like? I still remember decorating my RECORD cabinet with stenciled lettering- so I took a look up in my attic just have to look at what artists I painted on: Madonna, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, The Eurythmics, Prince- such great music!

4. Why did you want to write an e-book?

I love to share original songs and resources with other therapists and educators. I can’t help but smile when I walk through the halls and hear another therapist using a song I created with a student, or listen to a new adapted guitar student in a performance using my modified tuning.

5. What was your process for developing your e-book?

For this book, Michelle Erfurt was instrumental in helping me through the process. She had great ideas for two of the hardest parts, the cover, and the title of the e-book. She was also very encouraging in moving me through the process and editing. Thanks Michelle!

6. Favorite book (e-book or print) related to Music Therapy

I would have to say “Sing Together: Greetings and Goodbyes”since it includes a collection of original songs from a variety of outstanding music therapists and even a gifted music therapy client.

7. How would you describe your e-book in three words or less?

FASCINATING GUITAR EXPLORATION

Richards’ Modified Tuning for Adapted Guitar

8. Who can benefit from purchasing your e-book and why?

This e-book is designed to provide the music therapist or music educator with ways to explore the guitar with a variety of different learners. Many students, previously unsuccessful with making music on the guitar, are able to play and grow their skills. Many chords that would never be available to some students, can now be part of their chord vocabulary and guitar creations.

9. What kinds of music therapy e-books would you like to see more of on MusicTherapyEbooks.com?

I love seeing original song and intervention ideas for a variety of ages and populations. Love to see more e-books for adult populations.

 10. Anything else you would like to add?

I wish I had more time to write more books for Music Therapy E-Books! I think I will try to set a goal of 1 new book each year!
